Parts used: Leaf, Root. Root is antibacterial, antitumor, bitter tonic, cholagogue, mild diuretic, galactagogue, mildly hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic, nutritive. Leaf internally used as tea or tincture for fluid retention and to lower triglyceride and LDL/VLDL levels. Root internally used for heartburn, dyspepsia, and flatulence; as a liver tonic for jaundice, viral hepatitis, and hepatic torpor; and to help normalize blood sugar levels and stimulate bowel and liver functions.
